研究は，ともすれば孤独なものです。ですが，学問の垣根を越えて考えることのできる地理学的視方の広さを最大限活かし，デスクワーク（論文・学術書等の精読・翻訳，データ解析など）とフィールドワーク（実際に調査フィールドで体を動かして集めるデータ）のバランスを意識しながら，オープンでリラックスして参加できるようなゼミを行うよう心がけています。皆さんが研究の真の面白さを体感し、皆さんならでは（むしろ皆さんにしかできない！）の視点や題材，フィールドに出会えるお手伝いをできればと思います。
 

池田ゼミでは博士前・後期や研究生の別なく，毎年度異なるテーマでフィールド調査を実施しています。

特に，人文学・社会科学的視点に立ち，「有形遺産」・「無形遺産」の枠を超えてヘリテージとは何か，研究者独自の視点で「ヘリテージ／学とは何か」を考えることが大事だと考えています。

◎ヨーロッパでは全てがヘリテージ！

◎全てを後世へと「残す」ことはできるのでしょうか？むしろ，残そうとせずとも残っているのは何なのでしょうか？「伝統」文化の継承は，どのように起こるのでしょうか？変えることは，許されないのでしょうか？

・畳文化，日本食，和着物（キモノ），公衆浴場，言語（方言やイントネーション），クラシック音楽などなど。これ　

　らは，私達の毎日の生活の周縁にいながら，それでもカタチを変化し続けてきた文化です。また，グローバル化に伴　

　い，その価値が消費財・消費スタイルとして世界的に広がっています。こうした文化の本質は，どこにあるのでしょ　　

　うか。どのように変化してきたのでしょうか。私たちは何を継承し，何を今，記録すべきなのでしょうか。

◎「古い建物」か文化財か，有機的・創造的な次世代への継承

 

・文化行政の予算は潤沢ではありません。だからこそ，有機的に，古いモノを上手に使い続けていく必要があります。

　地域的領域が絶えず変化してきたヨーロッパでは，何を保存し，何を残すべきか，議論を続けてきました。こうした　

　地域の事例にヒントがあるのかもしれません。

・モノよりもヒトへ，ハードだけではなくソフトを含めた包括的視点へ，今，進むべきタイミングに来ているのではな　

　いでしょうか。この意味で，文主導の文理融合のあるべき姿が見えてくるのではないかと考えます。

なお，池田ゼミでは，言語がグローバル化（多言語使用）すると同時に単一化（標準語使用）している都市の言語景観を調査するため，代官山でフィールド調査を実施しました（2019～2020年度）。代官山は，日本においても創造産業（美容業・服飾業・デザイン業）が卓越している地域です。こうした地域の言語景観には，ヨーロッパ指向型の言語が確認されています。2022年現在は，オンラインでグローバルに調査を行っているところです。

The research process can be a lonely one. However, I try to provide an open and relaxed seminar, taking advantage of the broad perspective of geography, which allows us to think across disciplinary boundaries, and keeping in mind the balance between desk work (reading and translating papers and academic books, analyzing data, etc.) and fieldwork (collecting data by actually moving around in the research field). I also aim to provide an open and relaxed atmosphere in which you can experience the true fun of research and get to know the perspectives, subjects, and fields that are unique to you (or rather, that only you can do!). I would like to help you experience the real fun of research and encounter new perspectives, subjects, and fields that only you can (or rather, only you can!) encounter.

In my seminar, I conduct field research on different themes every year, regardless of whether you are a pre-or post-doctoral student or a research student. In particular, I believe that it is important to think about heritage from a humanities and social science perspective, beyond the framework of "tangible heritage" and "intangible heritage", and to consider "what is heritage/studies" from a researcher's own perspective.

 

◎In Europe, all are heritage!

- In European countries, where bricks and stones are used for their long-term service life, it is a kind of " precondition " to live and use a building for a long time. The mainstream is to preserve the building (hardware) and to change the space and spatiality (software).
- The European citizens' movement for the conservation of buildings, which led to the district's conservation; what should be protected and what is the meaning of their continued use
- The dynamics of the urban restructuring of World Heritage 'historic centres' (ie. "historic centres")
- The inscription of "industrial heritage" on the World Heritage List has much to do with the emergence of the "creative city" in Europe (or in countries where Europe is the former sovereign state).
- The inscription of "industrial heritage" on the World Heritage List has much to do with the emergence of creative city theory in Europe (and former European sovereign states).
-Urban cultural policies in Germany and other countries.

 

◎Is it possible to "preserve" everything for future generations? Can everything be "preserved" for future generations? What, in fact, remains without trying to preserve it? How does the transmission of 'traditional' culture occur? Is it not permissible to change it?

- Tatami culture, Japanese food, kimono, public baths and bathing, language (dialects and intonations), classical music... These are just a few examples. These are cultures that have been changing their forms while remaining on the periphery of our daily lives. With globalisation, the value of These are cultures that have been on the periphery of our daily lives, yet have continued to change shape. What is the essence of this culture? How has it changed? How has it changed? What have we inherited and what do we need to record now?

- Traditional custom, habitus and ways of living of trans-migrant people, such as Japanese Americans, Brazilians

- The legacy of the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan and its use by artists

 

◎Old buildings or histirc assets? Organic and creative inheritance to the next generation

- The budget of cultural administration is not abundant. That is why it is necessary to continue to use old things in an organic and creative way.
- In Europe, where regional territories have been constantly changing, the debate has been on what to preserve and what to leave behind. The time has come for us to move on to a more comprehensive perspective that includes people rather than things, and not only hardware but also software.
- In this sense, it is time to move forward. In this sense, I think that we can see the ideal form of humanities-led fusion of the humanities and sciences.

 

In addition, Ikeda Seminar conducted a field survey in Daikanyama (2019-2020) to investigate the linguistic landscape of a city where languages are becoming globalized (multilingual use) and monolingual (standardized use) at the same time. Daikanyama is one of the areas in Japan where creative industries (beauty, clothing, design) are dominant. As of 2022, we are currently conducting an online global survey of the language landscape of this area.
